Welcome to RU BSAC!
Join the facebook group, come along to our meetings and see how you can get involved!
Reading University BSAC is affiliated to the British Sub Aqua Club – the UK's leading dive club. For 45 years we have provided the opportunity for our members to learn to dive and gain recognised diving qualifications. You can also build on your existing knowledge and experience by taking part in further diver training or skills development courses.
We welcome divers from all agencies (including PADI) or complete novices who want to enjoy the exciting world beneath the waves!
RU BSAC arranges regular dive trips including visits to the British coast; National Dive Centre, Chepstow; and overseas trips to Malta, Lanzarote and the Red Sea. In addition, we have our club dive boat, Bungle, stored in West Bay on the West Dorset's stunning Jurassic Coast. Our members also enjoy access to a wide selection of diving equipment available included in the price of membership, including cylinders, regulators and BCDs.
Whether you’re just starting out or already an experienced diver, RU BSAC gives you the opportunity to dive in a safe, friendly and enjoyable environment.

I'm not qualified - I want to learn!
If you're not a qualified diver, you will need the following: Club Membership, Ocean Diver Training, and BSAC Membership (not available via RUSU - see below). Our course is aimed at complete novices with no prior diving experience. The fee includes all of your pool sessions, course materials, and theory examinations, although you'll have to hire your own exposure suit, pay for site entry, and travel costs. You will need to go on at least 4 open open water dives in order to qualify, which can usually be achieved over 1 weekend. We have limited dates available for training, so it is reccomended that before starting a course you ensure that you have as many weekends free in November and December as possible.
I'm qualified - I want to dive!
If you're already qualified with BSAC, PADI, or another organisation, you will need both Club Membership, and BSAC Membership (not available via RUSU - see below). This gives you access to all of our kit, as well as the opportunity to continue to expand your diving knowledge and experience!
What does "club membership" mean?
All divers wishing to join our club should purchase standard membership, which gives you free use of our kit and the opportunity to continue and expand your diving knowledge and qualifications.
In compliance with RUSU policy, all members must join 'Sports Fed' unless they are already a member (i.e. involved with other sports clubs on campus). The cost for this academic year is £15 and covers you in the event of an accident. When purchasing club membership, RUSU will prompt you if you need this.
What is BSAC membership?
We are a BSAC affiliated club and therefore, in addition to your RUBSAC membership, all members will need to join the British Sub Aqua Club (current direct debit student fee £30.50) which covers you with worldwide third-party liability insurance (when diving) and includes a free digital subscription to Scuba magazine, exclusive member offers and access to their internationally regonised diver training programme. To sign up, click here, type 'Reading' and choose Reading University BSAC to get started.
If you have a medical condition that may prevent you from diving, please speak to us first before purchasing membership or Ocean Diver.
Due to BSAC training rules, we are unable to accept members who are under 18 years of age. Please speak to us if you need more information.
