Reading University Men's Rugby League

We are a welcoming sporting society. We understand that most newcomers will have never played the sport before but that’s okay, we accept all skill levels.

We have won the league three years on the trot (2016/17, 2017/18, 2018/19), narrowly missing out on the fourth year (2019/20), to Oxford Brookes due to the season being called early due to Corona Virus. This success has led to BUCS to changing the league set up.

Whilst the season had been called early, we kept up our strong international footing. This year having one player picked for the England University Squad on top of the two Scottish players the year prior. We also were the only University to field players on both the North and South teams for the University Origin game.

Training: Every Tuesday 6-8pm on the paddock. Following the up to date Corona Virus guidelines as laid out by Rugby Football League. For the first few weeks we will have social activities after to ensure team bonding and to make sure you newcomers are fitting in to the university lifestyle, again following the up to date Government advise.

Game days: Unfortunately, BUCS have taken it upon themselves to cancel all Leagues for all sports Months before University returns. Yet at the time of writing (15/07/2020) Rugby is already moving from strength and conditioning/ ball drills towards grass root games going ahead. Therefore, if BUCS do not re-instate the League by September and both Government and RFL advise says games can go ahead we will Organise friendlies ourselves. We have already messaged several universities from Prem South, South Western and Midlands Leagues all of whom seem keen should this arise.

However, in BUCS do re-instate the league then games are every Wednesday. You will be told meet times at Tuesday training because they differ for home/away days.

Optional training: For those of you looking to meet up with team mates for gym sessions during the week to improve strength and conditioning, these will be available to organise via our Facebook page again providing the current Government advise is adhered to.
