Welcome to Reading University Women’s Rugby Union Page!
Reading University ladies, we want you! Are you a fresher coming to the University of Reading in September 2019 or someone who wants to try rugby? We are a developing squad open to all abilities from county players to complete beginners. We pride ourselves on our friendliness & team spirit and are basically an extended family at the university. We want girls of all shapes to take part in the sport so come and have a go at something different, no prior experience needed. Remember to look out for us at Fresher’s Fayre on 26th September or wandering around campus in our kit!
Our taster sessions will be on the 30th September and 7th October 2019 on the Paddock (between the tennis courts and Mackinder Halls), and feel free to join us at Park Bar after for post-training pints.
If you enjoyed the Women's Rugby World Cup in 2017 or are excited about the World Cup in 2019, then this is the sport for you. We have a great team of coaches and strong links to local teams in the Reading area. We have also been lucky enough to be featured as a demo team on the popular show ‘Rugby Tonight’ alongside Jimmy Gopperth from London Wasps.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us!
We currently play in the SouthEastern 2A division of the BUCS league, which is suitable for players of all abilities. These games take place on Wednesday afternoons which are set aside from academic timetables for sport. We train on Monday evenings from 7pm to 9pm and Wednesday afternoons from 2pm to 4pm (if we don't have a game). This year we intend to have a few friendly games and a tournament in the first term before the league begins.
Varsity is a crucial game of the season to us and a major event in the sporting calendar of both Reading University and our rivals, Oxford Brookes University. It's also an excuse for a fun day and night out with all the sports teams.
Overall, our aim is to start a second’s team and improve all season, as we have so much potential in the squad we have already and hopefully in any freshers and new players we gain! Our membership fee is only £35 so it's a cheap way to get fit and have fun with new friends!
Matches - Wednesday KO at 2pm
Training – Monday 7-9pm & Wednesday 2-4pm
Like all rugby teams, we love a good night out so socials are very important. Our themes have included Under the Sea, Charity Shop Night, Zombie Rugby Players at Halloween and the classic golfing attire for pub golf. There'll be plenty more to surprise you with in the coming year from our new social secretaries Phoebe and Emily. If you're not sure rugby is for you, come to one of our socials and we will show you how to have a good time!!
As well as our socials, we also have our annual tour! Prepare for the best time of your lives as previous trips have included Malta, Berlin, Dublin, and this year we went to Budapest. What goes on tour stays on tour, so you best come along to find out!!!!
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us!
