The Sporting Excellence Scholarship (SES) provides funding to support University of Reading students who compete in sport at national level, or who are on the national pathway. New for 2019/20, this scholarship has been funded by the generous support of University of Reading donors, many of whom were once students at Reading themselves.
All applicants will be assessed on an individual basis. Up to £2000 can be awarded per applicant. This money can help Scholars with travel to trials, cost of equipment, coaching, nutritional advice, gym memberships and other costs associated with competing in performance sport. The deadline to apply is 17:00 on Friday 16th October. If you are successful, your scholarship will be disbursed to you in early November.
Sporting Excellence Scholars will also be provided with an exclusive SES training shirt, only available to students receiving this scholarship. There will also be a termly Sporting Excellence Network, where Scholars can meet each other and socialise with others who understand the unique demands of being a student athlete.
To be eligible to apply for the Sporting Excellence Scholarship, you must be a student with a confirmed place at the University of Reading- undergraduate or postgraduate, part-time or full-time. We welcome applications from home, EU, and international students - the national team you represent does not need to be England or Great Britain.
You can apply using the form below, but at a later date you may be asked to provide proof of your sporting level (such as a letter inviting you to national trials). If you are accepted for a scholarship, you will be required to provide evidence of the costs for which you use the scholarship. You will also be required to provide photos and updates of your sporting successes for the purposes of marketing and feedback to your donor supporters.
