Hello there and welcome to the Student Eats Garden!
Are you looking to join a society where you can get involved in growing your own food AND get fitter in the process? And enjoy some fresh air away from a screen? All for FREE? Then look no further than the Student Eats Garden! You do not need to have any experience. We just give it a go with the help of our books, plant app and Google.
We are the University of Reading's community garden space open for both staff and student use.
Working in the garden during the summer (and winter) provides opportunities for students and colleagues to meet new people, make friends and learn about food production, gardening, DIY and all sorts!
It is now possible to go to the garden and get your hands dirty. Once the hard work is over, relax in the garden and maybe take some fresh vegetables home to eat depending on supply. You can even take charge of your own little plot (once you've built it).
We grow our own vegetables, flowers, herbs, fruits and enjoy the occasional cookout using our fully functional outdoor kitchen. We have all the equipment, tools and expertise - so you only have to be dressed for the weather and working outside! Our volunteers come from various departments and some are trained in permaculture and horticulture amongst other trades, whilst others learn as we go along. We share these skills with our members and cultivate a friendly, collaborative space where members can learn about growing their own food whilst enjoying their time interacting with nature and doing the occasional DIY project.
Our garden is open every
Wednesday 4:30-6:30 (during British summer time).
Wednesday 2:00 - 4:00 (November to April).
Sunday 11am until 3pm
so do drop by for a tour of our garden, find out the plans and what work you can get involved in. You get out what you put in and there is a lot to do, on top of the usual maintenance
The Student Eats Garden is managed and coordinated by a Debra Page witth the help of her trusty wingman Ash. If you have any questions or queries, please get in touch with Debra (email@example.com).
Checkout our Instagram - the only social media that we use.
Members should join the society on the RUSU page. Committed members only please who can come regularly throughout the year. No fair-weather volunteers as this is not fair.
