2018/19 Winners

Teaching Excellence (Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences)
Dr Jacqui Turner

Jacqui is one of the most enthusiastic lecturers I have met while at Reading. She consistently goes above and beyond to not only teach us the course content, but provide us with unique learning experiences. A lecturer who loves what she does and is an expert in her area, she is a real asset to the History department.

Jacqui constantly supports and believes in her students and inspires us to push ourselves. Her enthusiasm is inspiring and contagious and makes us all more passionate about our subject.

Teaching Excellence (Science)
Dr Sally Lloyd-Evans

Sally gave me the opportunity to develop myself personally and academically through the UROP scheme, has guided me through my dissertation, and has been supportive and helpful through both her modules I took in year two and three.

She has been supportive and encouraging, allowing me to reach my full potential and come out of my shell just in time for my dissertation research, in which she has been an excellent supervisor.

Teaching Excellence (Life Sciences)
Dr Mirjana Sokolovic-Perovic

Mirjana goes above and beyond to make course content engaging and enjoyable. She arrives at every lecture with a smile on her face and ready to make difficult concepts fully accessible and understood by every student. You can tell she really cares about her students by rapidly making herself, and helpful resources, available upon request.

Mirjana has organised feedback sessions in order to discuss tests and has scheduled revision sessions to prepare us for future exams. She really cares about her students and works hard to offer us the best support available.

Teaching Excellence (Business)
Dr Lebene Soga

Lebene has made lectures and practicals very useful and interesting, making me want to come to class. He has tried to make everyone interact in his classes in which he teaches by giving real-life examples. He has helped when I could not understand all the information, making it interesting and understandable.

Academic Tutor Excellence
Dr Holly Robson

Holly has been amazing. She has offered meetings at regular intervals (more regular than any of my peers). In these she has gone over work with me and liaised with other members of staff on my behalf. We have created strategies for tackling upcoming deadlines and exams and she also has gone above and beyond with individual assignments.

Support Staff Excellence
Sam Bennett

I have had the pleasure of coming to Sam for a number of queries and she is not only a gem of a person, but also a fantastic student support coordinator. She completely puts you at ease with her friendly smile and support. She is truly a credit to her role and GES at Reading.

Sam has always responded to queries whether it was for me as a School Rep or a student. She listens to the problems and proactively helps deal with issues. She has been a great support in dealing with admin or any other problems and always greets us with a smile!

Diverse and Inclusive Teaching Excellence
Dr Allan Laville

Allan has always been considerate and understanding of my extenuating circumstances. He has gone above and beyond for me and deserves recognition for the positive impact he has had on my learning this year.

As well as embedding inclusivity in his teaching, Allan also stretches his commitment to diversity outside of the classroom, through being involved in many projects, including being co-chair of the LGBT+ action plan group.

Graduate Teaching Assistant Excellence
Dina Ghanma

To make sure students fully understand the concepts is the main goal for Dina's teaching, and she has achieved beyond that. Not only did she apply the best teaching approaches, but she also put her efforts into advancing and trying new approaches all the time.

She was ready to assist beyond normal office hours and offer guidance especially to students with no background in finance. Her humility and service to others is great. She makes her classes interactive and friendly which makes students want to participate more during her tutorials and feel free to answer questions.

Outstanding Student-Staff Partnership
Dr Alicia Pena

This programme has had such a positive impact on students within the law school and would not have been possible if it was not for the hard work Alicia has put into creating the course. She has inspired all students who come to the talks by providing constructive and positive advice and has played a critical role in forming a partnership which helps students.

Course Rep of the Year 2019
Leah Napier, Part 3 Biological Sciences

I could evidently see Leah was very passionate about biology and outreach work. I was previously involved in organising the Young Biologists Forum (YBF) for my student cohort and with me graduating, I needed someone to take over the mantle and Leah did this with great aplomb. She was truly fantastic in organising this years’ YBF. She liaised with RUSU to get promotional merchandise for the event, organised catering for all and above all, ensured that students who attended this event had a great experience.

School Rep of the Year 2019
Will Page, Part 2 Law

Will is an enthusiastic and engaging representative of the School of Law's community, working tirelessly together with Course Reps and our SDTL. He is always supportive and encouraging, never failing to listen to issues of student concern and resolving matters with an ambitious and coherent approach.
