Society and Media Awards

Our Society and Media Awards celebrate the achievements and commitment of our 100+ societies and our fantastic student media streams. It means a lot to people for their work to be recognised, so log in and nominate now!

RUSU Societies and Media Awards

Although the awards balls will not be taking place in person, we will still be recognising and celebrating the winners! The format of the event will be announced here in due course.

Society Award Categories

This award is to recognise a society that has shown excellence in every aspect throughout the year. They will have provided opportunities for their members to get involved, and created a strong sense of community as a society. You may nominate your own society.

The award for Best New Society is awarded to acknowledge the hard work, dedication and progression of a society that was newly affiliated this academic year (2019/20). You may nominate your own society.

This award is for a society with 30 members or fewer, who offer great opportunities for students to engage, learn, develop new skills and socialise with like-minded individuals. You may nominate your own society.

This award is for the society that has improved the most, in aspects such as participation, engagement, opportunities’ offered, etc. You may nominate your own society.

Society Event of the Year is for societies who have run a well-organised, well attended, unique event for their members. This could be a formal, a showcase, a competition, etc. You may nominate your own society.

Society Trip of the Year is for societies who have run a well-organised, well attended, unique trip for their members. This could be within the UK or overseas. You may nominate your own society.

This award is for societies who have collaboratively run a well-organised, well attended production, open to students and community members alike. You may nominate your own society.

This award is to be given to an individual committee member who has shown exemplary commitment to their society and has gone above and beyond as a committee member over the past year. This award cannot be self-nominated.

Society Member of the Year is to be awarded to any individual non-committee member who has shown exemplary commitment to their society over the past year, and has been consistently involved in the activities organised by the society throughout the year. This award cannot be self-nominated.

The Society Class Clown is an award aimed at celebrating or commemorating a society members’ most embarrassing moment. This could be the one member with a string of offences throughout the year, or simply one big clanger. You may nominate yourself.

This award is given to the society who made an extra effort to raise money for a charity through their choosing, through organising an event or series of events. You may nominate your own society.

Every society is dedicated to their own success, but some go the extra mile to achieve it. This is awarded to the society who has worked extra hard and have shown outstanding commitment throughout the year. You may nominate your own society.

This award is to celebrate a society president who has shown exemplary commitment to their society over the past year, going above and beyond in their role. This award cannot be self-nominated.

The Inclusion & Diversity Award is to celebrate a society’s outstanding commitment to ensuring inclusion and diversity within their society’s activities and events. You may nominate your own society.

Media Award Categories

Stream of the year is awarded to the Media Stream that has provided a wide range of opportunities for members to gain media skills & experience, built a strong sense of community within their outlet & has regularly informed and entertained the Reading community to a high standard.

Awarded to the Student Media outlet that has improved on the previous year through its coverage and being innovative to transform the experience of their members, and the wider student body.

Awarded to an individual or group that have produced an engaging piece in either TV or radio format. This must be an innovative and thought provoking piece of journalism.

Awarded to a student new to student media this year, who has put in a lot of effort to contribute towards the media stream this year.

Media Committee Member of The Year will be awarded to the committee member who has shown dedication to their stream and gone above and beyond during their role this year.

Awarded to the individual who has an article published on one of the media stream websites or publications that is extremely well put together.

Media Member of The Year awards the student media contributor/media who has been constantly involved in their stream during the year and helped the stream put out quality content.
